كان النّبيٌ صلى الله عليه وسلم أنظف الناس ، وأطيب الناس ، وكان لا يُفارقه السّواك وقال صلى الله عليه وسلم لأصحابه رضوان الله عليهم : { ما لكم تدخلون عليّ قُلحاً. استاكوا }. وجاء في الحديث أنه صلى الله عليه وسلم كان إذا رفع يديه تبين عفرةُ إبطيه ، وكان ساقه ربما انكشف فكأنها جُمّارة ، وكان يُحبُ الطِيب ويكره أن يُشمّ منه ريح ليست طيبة.
قال بعض الحُكماء : مَنْ نظف ثوبه قلّ همّه ، ومَنْ طاب ريحه زاد عقله ، فالمتنظف مُنعمٌ بنفسه ، وتقرُبُ منه قلوب الخلق ، وتُحبُه النفوس لنظافته وطيبه ، انتهى.
قُلحاً : أي صفرة الأسنان أو خضرة بين الأسنان.
عفرةُ إبطيه : بياض إبطيه.
جُمّارة : أي قلب النّخلة.
الشاهد :
انتشرَ عند البعض قول : { النظافة مِنْ الإيمان } ، على أنه حديثٌ نبوي ، وهو من الأحاديث التي لا تصح نسبتها إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم.

The Guidance of Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, in cleanness
Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, was the cleanest and nicest person, and he never left sewak (tooth cleanser). He asked his companions, may Allah be pleased with them, why they came to him with tartar teeth, and he advised them to use sewak for teeth cleansing. In another hadeeth, it was narrated that when Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, used to raise his arms, his armpits looked white, and when his leg was exposed, it looked like palm pith. He also liked perfume and didn’t like anyone to find unpleasant smell coming from him.
Some judicious people said: A person who cleans his clothes will feel less grief, and who smells good will have a better mind. A cleaning person feels self comfort and people like him for his cleanness and good scent.
The point is :
Some people circulate the saying “cleanness is part of imam (faith)” as a hadeeth by Prophet Mohammad, peace be upon him, but this is not a true hadeeth that can be narrated to Prophet Mohammad.
